  • Heather Gillespie

    Owner/Coach

Heather Gillespie has been CrossFitting for nearly a decade and specializes in running our group classes while building the daily programming. She is passionate about movement in general. “I like to help people learn how the body can move and how they can apply that in everyday life both to get more fit and have fun,” she says. “The best thing about coaching anyone is seeing them grow more confident in themselves through movement. To have the members embrace their body and appreciate what it can do is very rewarding.”

As a child, Heather dabbled in a lot of individual sports, including recreational gymnastics. In university, she did track and field (mainly pole vaulting). “Up until two years ago, I focused on competitive CrossFit,” she says. “I went to the Games as an individual in 2012 (second in Can West) and 2013 (first in Can West), and I now enjoy CrossFit as a way to stay healthy and fit without the competitive training.”

Her favorite quote: “Be. Here. Now.” – Ram Dass

    Owner/Coach

Brandon Bufton has been CrossFitting for five years and focuses on perfecting barbell movements while helping our members see their true potential. “I love helping them achieve something that they thought they might never be able to do,” he says.

Brandon played college baseball at Lewis-Clark State College and Louisiana State University of Shreveport, followed by two seasons with the Lethbridge Bulls, where his team won the 2015 WMBL Championship and he was awarded the 2015 WMBL MVP. After the first time he tried CrossFit, he instantly knew that he wanted to be a part of it and help change people’s lives through it. “After my college baseball career was over, I transitioned into coaching CrossFit as quickly as I could,” he says. “I achieved my CF-L1, and got the opportunity to coach here at FUEL Lifestyle and Performance.”

His favorite quote: “There are no shortcuts to anyplace worth going.” – Beverly Sills

  • Travis Steinke

    Owner/Coach

Travis Steinke has been training athletically for nearly a decade, and concentrates his energy in athletic development. He’s passionate about helping our athletes prepare for their next level of competition. “The best part of coaching is watching our athletes out work their goals, and seeing all the hard work they put in pay off when they make teams, receive awards, receive scholarships and win championships,” he says.

Travis played many sports in high school, but narrowed his focus to baseball in Grade 12 when he joined The Prospects Academy and began training at Athletes Nation. “From there, I went on to be an all-conference player both years at PBA, winning championships both years,” he says. He played five years for the Lethbridge Bulls, winning a championship in 2015, as well as three years at The University of Arkansas at Monticello. He was an all-conference selection once, all-tournament team selection twice, and an all-regional tournament selection once. “I love sports and competition,” he says. “Helping athletes work towards a rewarding athletic career has always been my goal. When the opportunity to do so came around with the awesome FUEL Lifestyle and Performance group, it was a no brainer. It has been the best fit I could ask for.”

  • Sean Cassidy

    Coach

Sean Cassidy specializes in program design, personal training for a variety of goals, diagnosing bio-mechanical efficiency and efficacy, coaching Olympic weightlifting and CrossFit (both as a sport and as a key ingredient of a healthy lifestyle). “I am very passionate about seeing people reach beyond what they thought was possible for themselves,” he says. “Whether it be the twenty-something fired up about their 400-pound lift, or a sixty-something surprising themselves with a broader range of motion and energy capacity to play with their grandkids, this training methodology has opened many doors and many eyes to potential they didn’t realize was there.”

Sean’s background is in the non-traditional sports world and includes martial arts, skateboarding and snowboarding. Though he now has had Top 5 and 10 finishes in CrossFit Competitions across BC, he truly found no athletic drive until he came to CrossFit and Olympic Weightlifting in his early 20s. “My better half and I travelled around to any and every box/gym we could find, went to every Olympic weightlifting and gymnastics seminar, and sought out the retired Canadian Olympic team to pick their brains on training methods, how to balance training and life, and how to wrap that up and teach any age. Family and career then brought us back to Lethbridge, with a wealth of coaching knowledge and experience to share with this little city.”

He loves optimizing human performance. “Everything health and wellness related is a great thing in my mind,” he says. “I really enjoy facilitating change in our members’ lives, as well as witnessing growth in their independence towards improving their own bodies.”

Primarily active in volleyball and fastball, Ian enjoys delving into many other athletic pursuits and has a tremendous amount of respect for the knowledge and leadership style of our Heather Gillespie. His favorite inspirational saying is: “If it’s important to you, you will find a way. If not, you will find an excuse.”

He started CrossFit in 2012, and after two years completed his Level 1 training.
